Wolfburn 177 Small Batch

Wolfburn 177 Small Batch single malt Scotch whisky has been crafted from a combination of spirit matured for eight years in first-fill ex-bourbon hogsheads, married with spirit matured for seven years in first-fill Caribbean rum barrels. The flavour of the resultant whisky is a triumph, combining the smooth sophistication of bourbon maturation with unique sweetness and depth from the rum casks. Although still a young distillery, Wolfburn was first established in 1821 in Thurso, on Scotland’s far north coast. Production ceased in 1850s, with Wolfburn’s new distillery started in 2012 very close to the old site. With production starting in 2013, their inaugural expression was released in February 2016. They continue to make their whisky the same way it was always made: by hand, using only the finest ingredients, and without haste. Wolfburn’s whisky is distilled, matured and bottled on-site.   Nose: Roasted figs and prunes meet candied ginger. There’s a terrific depth of flavour with plum sauce and toffee meeting marzipan and sultanas Palate: Rum influence shines through with overtones of molasses ever-present. Layers of sweetness unfurl over time, with fruit and honey notes beautifully bound together by silky oak tannins. Finish: The finish is sticky, fruity, decadent and delicious. ABV: 46% 7ocl
