As a Sarcopenia Sufferer…. In my mid-sixties now I struggle with sarcopenia. Actually, I have been experiencing it for a while, but didn’t understand until recently what was going on. For the last six months I have been on a supplement program, increased my quality protein intake (including at least an additional 2 eggs a day), and strength and core exercises.To challenge my muscles I learned I could use bands and/or weights. At this early stage it seemed easier to start with weights, and these so far ar working perfectly for me, and I’m starting at the ground level. Doing some of the exercises, I find I can add a pound on each end of both weights so that I am lifting four pounds each. For other exercises, that is too much to start with so I removed all the additional weights and am comfortable starting with two pounds in each hand for those exercises.Gradually, I will increase the challenge to my muscles, and these weights will let me increase that challenge up to ten pounds in each hand. I am not in this for typical bodybuilding, but to first regain the muscle I’ve lost, if it is still possible, and keep myself at that level.
